BUDDHIST SYSTEM OF EDUCATION
Buddhist education was based on the teaching of Gautama Buddha. Buddhist period in Indian education roughly starts from 600 B.C. and lasts for about 1200 years till 600 A.D. Buddhist Education made revolutionary changes in the society. It made Education open to all for the first time in the world. Students irrespective of caste, creed, and religion got opportunity to have education which was denied by superior class of the society.Budhist Education make man judicious,humanist,logical and free from supersitions.
The monasteries were the centre of education. The Buddhist education was typically an institutionalized system of education.The Buddhist education was open to all irrespective of caste,creed,religion,and gender. Teacher pupil relationship was pure,affectionate,cordial and intimate. Buddhist education covered diversified subjects of study.Budhist education promotes vocational education.The main aim of Buddhist education was all round development of child personality. Method of teaching was mostly verbal. Idealistic model discipline through self-control and self-imposed restrictions prevailed throughout Buddhist education.
